choreographer, dancer and performer, born in 1982, studied classical and contemporary dance for 13 years at the vienna state opera, the vienna conservatory, the conservatoire nationale supérieure de musique et de danse lyon and the escola superior de dança lisbon. she sees the discrepancy between dance styles in movement and form as skills that enable her to move into difficult physical and emotional states and actions. for her, dance is not a representation of a chosen or developed content, it is the confrontation and the potential to tell, to experience and to make it tangible. theater is a safe space in which positioning oneself is permitted and desired – a universe in which one can witness beauty and horror. in recent years, steffi wieser has worked intensively with choreographers and directors on experimental and immersive performance/ opera and theater pieces. recent collaborations as a performer include fronte vacuo/it, florentina holzinger/ at, aron kitzig/ de, saint genet/ us, signa/ dk and the watermill center residency in new york. for 2022 she received a scholarship from the austrian ministry of culture bka for her own work and in 2023 a literature scholarship in which she starts a discourse about how dance education in the early years of childhood and young adulthood affects the body, the mind and the heart.
